The Irish Hooley 2024 Bands

The High Kings are Finbarr Clancy, Darren Holden, Paul O’ Brien and Brian Dunphy who have held the position as the distinctive voice of Irish folk music across the world for the last 15 years. And, as they continue to sell out venues around the world to an ever- growing army of loyal fans, The High Kings show no signs of stopping. Having already surpassed a 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify as well as 2 platinum albums in their time, 2023 saw The High Kings celebrate 15 years together by releasing 15 brand new tracks to their fans, as well as the release of their, 8th studio album, The Road Not Taken. Renowned for their captivating harmonies and timeless melodies, The High Kings’ eighth studio album is a collection of original songs that breathe new life into traditional folk music, blending the old with the new.

Ballyheigue Meet the band: Ballyheigue is a six-piece Irish band specializing in traditional instrumental and vocal Irish songs. Comprised of family members Jim, Alison, and Emily Ott, with Carl Droessler, Rob McCullough and Seth Enz. They have played at various locations around the tri-state area.

The Lads of Dubuque- Dubuque, Iowa

Meet The Lads: Back in 1998 The Lads of Dubuque was born. It’s collection of local talent that enjoys celebrating their Irish and American roots. Featuring vocals, piano, guitar, whistles and the fiddle, The Lads of Dubuque play favorite Irish pub melodies, ballads and rebels songs. Should you stop down, be prepared to sing along with this group of Irish partiers because they believe the real joy of a Hooley is best realized when all are engaged and active. So bring your thirst for fun and be prepared to raise your voices and bevies to all that is great about being an Irish American!

Ian Gould- Delafield, Wisconsin- Dubuque, Iowa

Ian, an immigrant from Belfast, Northern Ireland, began his musical career as a kid playing in bands throughout Ireland, the UK & Europe. Ian is now a solo artist and a singer/songwriter. He has been performing internationally for more than 20 years. Through his music and travels Ian has had the privilege of living and studying in Perth, Scotland and living in some other fine European cities such as London, Brussels, and Amsterdam.

Although he is still a continuous traveler, Ian now resides in the United States. He received his U.S. citizenship in November 2015! A veteran bassist who has toured with bands throughout Europe and the U.S.A, Ian currently lives with his wife and two children near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a solo artist popular throughout the Midwest, from Minnesota to Illinois, to Michigan. “I’m fortunate to live where I live, because the Irish scene is vibrant. I meet so many wonderful people as I travel around.”

Ian Gould was recently nominated for the “Top Solo Performer in a Pub Venue throughout the USA, Ireland, European Union, and the United Kingdom. In 2012, Ian was invited by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to perform for him and for Irish and British diplomats on the 12th of July, at the President’s official residence, Áras an Uachtaráin, in Dublin. It was a great experience for all! In 2016, Ian was nominated for “Best Acoustic Musician” for Best of Milwaukee.

Rory Maken– Dublin

Meet Rory: A seasoned performer with over 34 years on the road, Rory has toured extensively with The Makem Brothers, and the Makem and Spain Brothers and for 17 years played guitar with his father, Tommy Makem. He has played sold-out venues, festivals, and theaters throughout the United States, Canada, England, Scotland and Ireland. At his best on stage, Rory captivates his audiences with charisma, passion for the songs, poetry, history, humor and skilled musicianship. The love of song runs deep in the family. Through more than a quarter century of plying his craft, Rory has established himself as one of the leading forces in the song tradition of Irish music… and so… the tradition continues.

Michael Darcy & the Atlantic Tramps– Canadia

Meet the band: After releasing his impressive solo debut Simple Drop of Rain in 2018, Canadian-based, Irish folk singer-

songwriter Michael Darcy returned to the studio with his new band ‘The Atlantic Tramps’ in tow for the
eagerly-awaited follow-up album, Down to the Roots. Drawing from the well of rich Irish music that he
grew up with and also being inspired by gritty American songwriters like John Prine & Guy Clark, he
aimed to create a whirlwind of folk traditions — where greengrass meets bluegrass. Released in July
2022 to critical acclaim, Down to the Roots was described by UK magazine Folk and Honey as “an
excellent album; well-crafted songs with detailed arrangements brought to life with virtuosic flair.

” Irish Music Magazine raved that “Darcy’s originals sit so comfortably within the genre that you’d swear

they’ve been around for generations.” The album also garnered a 2023 Canadian Folk Music Award
nomination for ‘Traditional Singer of the Year’ while his original song “The Ballad of Uncle Frank”, from

the same album, was nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ at the 2023 Ontario Folk Music Awards.
